Technical implementation and typical tools in the SAP Basis environment
The task of SAP Basis is to ensure trouble-free, interoperable and portable (mobile) operation of SAP systems in the company. Interoperable means that independent and heterogeneous IT systems can work together.

Especially after security incidents it may be necessary to find out which (technical) users have logged in at which time. The USR02 table provides a first entry point. In the TRDAT column you can find the last login date for the user you want. However, a history of previous applications is not found in this table. In such cases, the Security Auditlog or SAL helps. Preparation In order to access the desired data, it must also have been saved previously. In the Security Auditlog, you can use various filters to determine which users are logged on which client and which information. The Security Auditlog stores, depending on configuration, logins, RFC calls, and other actions for specific users. You can make these settings in the SM19 transaction. Note: Logging user activity must be aware of the users concerned! Configure the SAL only for technical users or in consultation with users / works council / etc. It can be seen there among other things when the SAL was activated and last edited (1). You can also select the various filters (2), activate the filters individually (3), specify clients and users (4) and specify which activities are logged (5). Static configuration in the SM19 Under the Dynamic Configuration you can also see if SAL is currently active for the system. Determine the status of the SAL Evaluation of the SAL If the Security Audit Log is active, switch to the SM20 evaluation of the Security Audit Log. Select the desired user and client and the appropriate time window. The option Dialogues login is sufficient for the login. Then, restart the AuditLog analysis. Start evaluation You will get an overview of the user's login to the selected client of the system.

Following the recommendation of dividing the SAP basis into an application-orientated and infrastructure-related SAP basis [A4], Figure 3 shows a possible presentation form. The SAP-Basis interface function is structured into a SAP basis, which is close to the application and is responsible for coordination and communication with vertical and higher IT specialist and business areas, and a SAP basis close to the infrastructure. The infrastructure-related SAP basis in turn serves as the link between the application-orientated SAP basis and the infrastructure levels. Subject Matter Experts will perform the link task again. In the application-orientated SAP basis, in turn, technology architects are more likely to be placed. The innovation activity or innovation team aspect of the SAP basis is placed at the level of the SAP basis, which is close to the application, because the existing capabilities allow it to assume a leading, also coordinating role and acquire expertise both by adding the SAP basis near the infrastructure and the downstream IT departments. As a user of the group, you cannot see tabs either. Now select the applications / tabs to which the group should be accessed (with CTRL you can select several) and select the Grant button. Note: Select the Grant drop-down menu using the button and not the drop-down menu! Use the drop-down menu to determine if and how far users of the group you are currently editing can make CMC tab configurations to other groups / users! Select Grant for the desired tabs. If you still do not see any applications/tabs, it is because the group/user lacks the generic display right at the top level of the respective tab. To do this, go to the desired tab (in the example is the universe), select Manage —> Top-Level Security —> All Universes (the last point differs depending on the tab). Confirm the hint that appears and assign at least the following right for the groups you want: General —> General —> Objects View. Once this right is granted, the tab will also appear on the CMC home page. You can then see the tabs on the CMC home page.

The "Shortcut for SAP Systems" tool is ideal for doing many tasks in the SAP basis more easily and quickly.

The PIB 2004.1 Workplace Plug-In release is part of the SAP Basis Plug-In for SAP Basis 640.

Understanding the structure and functioning of the system is especially important for IT administration. It is not for nothing that "SAP Basis Administrator" is a separate professional field. On the page www.sap-corner.de you will find useful information on this topic.

Within SAP R/3 Enterprise, the SAP Basis Plug-In is a prerequisite for you to use the SAP R/3 Plug-In.
