Introduction & Best Practices
Security management, system audits, hardening and monitoring
The tasks of a company's own SAP Basis department are undergoing enormous change at many companies, as SAP is also relying more and more on cloud services. Strategically, completely self-hosted SAP systems are becoming rarer and the proportion of customers using an SAP system from the cloud is increasing. The new roles of SAP Basis employees tend to be "enablers" and coordinators between the cloud provider and internal IT and the business departments. Until that time comes, companies can also rely on external service providers to offer expert know-how as well as operational support for the transition period.

The application layer is the central component of the SAP R/3 system. This layer is therefore also referred to by SAP as the actual base system. Within the layer there are application servers and a message server.
Processes
The default permissions to open and use a launchpad are the SAP_UI2_USER_700. The role for the administration is SAP_UI2_ADMIN_700. In the administration interface, the launchpad can be customised, so this permission should only be released to a few users for administration.

There are several ways to introduce and operate new applications. As a company you have the choice between internal realisation and operation, outsourcing, cloud computing and so-called outtasking. In deciding on one of the above concepts, the SAP basis must be included for the evaluation of various technological and operational aspects, which offers the possibility to develop a sound decision. This decision has a significant impact on the future operation of SAP and the associated operating and maintenance costs. The recommendations listed here are intended to help you decide on other forms of service. Information on the recommendation can be found in the Master's thesis in chapters 7.8 and 9.6.

The "Shortcut for SAP Systems" tool is ideal for doing many tasks in the SAP basis more easily and quickly.

In addition, the permanent manual activation of individual connections represents a continuous effort.

SAP Basis is the foundation of any SAP system. You can find a lot of useful information about it on this page: www.sap-corner.de.

This saves us a lot of time and ensures that no checks are overlooked when performing manually.
